On the 10th November 2017, ZUST International Students held and hosted a very captivating debate. Three reputable Universities in Zhejiang Province were present. These were Zhejiang University of Science and Technology (host University), Zhejiang Gongshang University and Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University.
The motion of the debate was “Government intervention is vital in building a positive society”. A unique debate format was used which is the KARL POPPER format and sides where picked randomly before commencement of each round.
Three judges were set from the three higher learning Institutions. ZUST was hence represented by the Debate club Patron Prof. Thomas. Each team comprised of three speakers; First, Second and Final Speaker.
The order of the debate was as follows:
1 VS 2 ZGSU VS ZAFU
1 VS 3 ZGSU VS ZUST
2 VS 3 ZAFU VS ZUST
The three teams faced each other as they presented their persuasive arguments and profound logic. The first and second speakers from each team had a maximum of 6 minutes per speaker and a maximum of 3 minutes for cross examination while the final speaker had a maximum of 5 minutes to conclude the team’s debate points from each side.
With the given order of debate, ZAFU faced off first with ZGSU, then ZGSU faced off against ZUST, finally ZUST went head to head with ZAFU. The debate got heated up once ZUST joined in.
The 1st runners up at the end of the debate were ZAFU followed by ZUST and finally ZGSU.
Pictures would tell a better story, so here we go;
ZUST speakers were:
Natsai Sophia Tafa (the most gracious and awarded Best Speaker from ZUST)
Tirelo Maikano (the most furious and unbeatable member on ZUST panel)

And those were our main speakers who gladly did a great and commendable job.
