GRADUATION CEREMONY SPEECH BY MS. JANE MUBYANA

ZUST GRADUATION CEREMONY SPEECH BY MS. JANE MUBYANA, A PARENT AND DIPLOMAT AT THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA IN TEL AVIV, ISRAEL

On the 18th day of June 2019, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology held its graduation ceremony for both Undergraduate and Master’s Degree graduating students. Among other exciting activities, a Zambian Diplomat, representative of the parents and guardians of students, and a mother to one of the excellent Civil Engineering graduating students, Francis Mutemwa, gave the following speech;

Ø  Our Guest of Honour

Ø  The University President

Ø  University Professors

Ø  Fellow Parents and Guardians

Ø  Graduating Students

I am extremely honoured to stand and speak on behalf of all parents and indeed on my own behalf on such an auspicious occasion.

My name is Jane Mubyana from Zambia. I am mother of Francis Mutemwa. He is a graduate of Civil Engineering, class 152.

It is said that the greatest inheritance of any parent are the children. In the same breath, the greatest gift any parent can give their children is education. We therefore here today stand, to witness the realization of this dream come true. I personally, i am filled with joy of having made this investment for my son.

Coming from an African culture where grabbing of estates for a late parent meant for the children by relatives is rife, this education is about the only thing no one can ever grab from you my dear graduates. A lot of resources on the part of all of us parents has gone into your education. It is not a debt but a gift from us to you. Treasure it and God willing pass it on to your offsprings as well. May God therefore fulfill your desires in your lifetime in this journey he has begun for you.

I would be amiss if i didn’t commend the host country China and this University in particular for the excellent study environment and opportunity given to our sons and daughters to come and study, we shall forever remain indebted.

Finally, accept my sincere wish for your safe flight back to your various countries. God bless you all and your horizons ever expand.
