Sponsor: Zhejiang University of Science and Technology

Organizer: Chinese-German Institute for Applied Engineering (CDAI), Zhejiang University of Science and Technology

Co-organizer: School of Foreign Languages, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology

On November 17th, the 2022 International Conference on Engineering Education in Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Universities in our Schools was held.

Over the past 40 years of China's reform and opening up, China-foreign cooperation in running schools has developed vigorously. This flourishment has not only introduced high-quality educational resources but has also promoted the internationalization of China's higher education. The China-foreign cooperation in engineering education has moreover trained a large number of international engineering and technical professionals in the engineering field.

The President, Professor Chen Jianmeng, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 70 experts, scholars and front-line teachers from 18 domestic and foreign universities who have long been engaged in international cooperative engineering education held a heated discussion on the theme of “International cooperation to train outstanding engineers for the future”.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Joachim Johannes Litz, former vice President of the University of Applied Sciences in Lübeck, Chairman of the Commission of the Sino-German Cooperation of ZUST,, delivered a welcome speech. He said that although the participants in this seminar came from different countries and regions, they all wanted to provide young people with the best education. He hopes that through this international seminar, all parties participating in the conference will be able to further strengthen international cooperation and work hard to solve the current problems in international cooperation in engineering education.

In the keynote presentation session, Professor Frank Schwartze, Vice-President, Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, Germany, pointed out that the task of applied engineering education is to provide technology and talents to the region and society. Applied universities should adapt to the needs of development and provide them with energy.

Professor Li Dehong, Dean of the United College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Academician of the Singapore Academy of Engineering, Zhejiang University, took the United College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as an example and introduced how to cultivate outstanding engineering talents for the future through international cooperation, interdisciplinary disciplines, and integration of industry and education.Professor Dimitris Kotzinos of the University of Paris, Serge, France, introduced the basic situation of the China-French cooperation project around “Cooperation in cultivating future data scientists”.He believes that the training of international talents needs to be in line with the development trend of the global economy and the development needs of emerging industries.

The conference strengthened exchanges between universities, broadened their horizons, and helped promote the further high-quality and international development of engineering education.
